Bathroom Renovation in Lahore: A Practical Planning Guide
Bathrooms are small rooms with the most hidden work. Plan the parts you cannot see first and the finishes will last.
Choose your scope level
Every bathroom renovation in Lahore falls into one of three levels. Deciding which one you need keeps the budget and the disruption honest.
| Level | What changes | Best when |
|---|---|---|
| Refresh | Fittings, mirror, lighting, paint, accessories | Tiles and pipes are sound |
| Partial | Floor or wall tiles, vanity, shower area | Finishes are tired, services are fine |
| Full | Strip to structure, new plumbing, waterproofing, layout | Leaks, old GI pipes or a poor layout |
Older Lahore houses often hide galvanised pipes that have narrowed with scale. If water pressure is weak or walls show damp patches, plan for a full renovation rather than a cosmetic one.
Waterproofing comes first
Most bathroom failures are leaks into the room below or damp rising behind tiles. Waterproofing is invisible once tiled, so it must be done and tested before finishes go on.
- Membrane on the floor and turned up the walls, higher inside the shower.
- Correct floor slope towards the drain so water never pools.
- A flood test before tiling: fill the floor and check below.
- Sealed pipe penetrations and quality grout in wet zones.

Fittings and fixtures
Fittings decide daily comfort. Pick them early because concealed cisterns, mixers and floor drains must be fixed into the wall and floor before tiling.
- Concealed cistern and wall-hung WC for easy cleaning.
- Thermostatic or pressure-balanced mixers where water pressure varies.
- Linear drains for walk-in showers.
- Exhaust fan sized for the room, ducted outside.
- Geysers and pumps planned with the plumber, not added later.
Layout and storage
Keep the wet zone (shower) apart from the dry zone (vanity and WC) with a glass screen and a level threshold. Place the WC away from the door line and give the vanity a deep drawer rather than open shelves. In compact bathrooms, a niche in the shower wall replaces bulky caddies.
Lighting matters more than it seems: a soft ceiling light, a mirror light at face height and a low night light make the room usable at any hour.

Choosing materials for Lahore bathrooms
Hard water, summer heat and monsoon humidity are tough on bathrooms. Hard water leaves scale on glass and chrome, so choose fittings with a quality finish and plan for easy cleaning. Grout in wet zones should be a stain-resistant type; epoxy grout costs more but stays cleaner for longer.
| Surface | Good choice | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Floor | Matt porcelain | Slip resistance, low maintenance |
| Shower walls | Large-format porcelain | Fewer grout lines |
| Vanity top | Quartz or solid surface | Resists stains and heat |
| Vanity body | Moisture-resistant board, sealed edges | Does not swell |
| Ceiling | Moisture-resistant gypsum | Handles steam |
Accessibility and future-proofing
A bathroom renovated today should still work in twenty years. Consider a level or low-threshold shower entry, a grab rail backing fixed inside the wall even if the rail is added later, a comfortable WC height and lever taps. These choices cost little during renovation and help elderly parents, guests and anyone recovering from an injury.
Plan sockets carefully: a shaver point at the mirror, a protected circuit for the geyser, and nothing within reach of the shower.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Tiling over old, cracked tiles without checking the base.
- Skipping the flood test to save a day.
- Choosing glossy floor tiles that become slippery.
- Placing the exhaust fan where it cannot vent outside.
- Ordering imported fittings after demolition starts.
- Forgetting a niche, so bottles end up on the floor.
Each of these leads to rework that costs more than doing it right the first time.
What sets the timeline
Duration depends on scope, not on a fixed number. Demolition, plumbing changes, waterproofing curing and tile work each need their own time, and imported fittings can delay a project if ordered late. Fix the scope and order fittings before demolition starts.

The short version.
- Pick a scope level (refresh, partial or full) before anything else.
- Waterproof and flood-test before tiling.
- Order fittings early; concealed parts go in before tiles.
Questions
Asked often, answered plainly.
Weak water pressure, damp walls, loose tiles or leaks into the room below usually mean the pipes and waterproofing need replacing, not just the finishes.
Matt or textured porcelain with a good slip rating. Save glossy tiles for walls.
A refresh can: new fittings, lighting, mirror and vanity. Plumbing or waterproofing changes need the tiles removed.
It depends on scope, size and fittings. A written, itemised quote after a site visit is the reliable way to know.
The best bathroom work is the part you never see: slope, membrane and a flood test.
